With the outbreak of COVID-19, the Irish government initiated the repatriation of 600 people from Australia. Hannon Travel worked with Qatar Airways to get people returned to Ireland as soon as possible.
Hannon Travel were an existing customer, the first in Ireland to use 8×8’s platform. Within an hour of receiving Hannon Travel’s request, Workair remotely modified their system to enable 30 employees to work from home. An integrated payment platform was also set up within a number of hours.
The company were able to provide a 24-hour service to customers in Ireland and Australia with three shifts of 10 employees able to dial the company’s central telephone number. The system then distributed the calls to the available agents as appropriate.
As a result of enabling this remote working practice, Hannon Travel, in conjunction with Qatar Airways, facilitated the repatriation of over 600 people from Australia over the following week.
Eimer Hannon, Managing Director
“"I want to thank you most sincerely for all your assistance and support in helping us set up and adjust the phone system so quickly in March to enable us to get Irish Citizens safely home during the peak of the Global COVID-19 Pandemic.
As a result of the speed that you were able to adjust our system we were able to make a huge contribution getting overseas citizens and families home quickly and safely in a very challenging time. It is a great example of partnership for a common cause and even better that it was 3 Meath Companies involved!
The anxiety and fear in people desperate to get home when flight options were reducing rapidly was something I hadn’t experienced before – not even working thru 9-11 crisis. It was heart-breaking to listen to the stories and then also the delight of the stranded citizens to speak to someone that was going to get them home, but that’s a longer story!
On behalf of Hannon Travel, the passengers that were overseas and their families here in Ireland, I want to express my sincere thanks and appreciation for your quick response and assistance."”
